The Scene: Billed as “art in the great northleft,” Seattle’s venerable music festival not only offers great music, but also features the best in film, comedy, spoken word, dance, theater, and performance and visual arts. The festival claims to be the largest of its kind in North America.
Now in its 46th year, Seattle’s Festival, Bumbershoot is one of Seattle’s largest cultural touchstones. Each year, thousands of people across the country flock to Seattle to attend the acclaimed festival, which has become one of the biggest and best-loved contemporary festivals in North America. Bumbershoot’s diverse programming includes live music, comedy, theatre, film, visual arts, dance performance, and more. In a unique relationship, designed to preserve the best of the festival and the strength required to mount such an epic event annually, AEG Live Pacific Northwest and One Reel are partners, working together with Seattle Center to co-produce Bumbershoot 2016 and beyond.
Founded in 1973, One Reel fuels Seattle civic pride through signature experiences that foster growth and development in community and the arts. The experiences we produce are emblematic of Seattle’s values: arts, accessibility, and inclusivity. The arts programming at Bumbershoot is a significant component of One Reel’s offerings to the Northwest arts community. We make contemporary art accessible to broad audiences through multidisciplinary programming that reflects our regional diversity and positions Seattle arts within an international contemporary art landscape. With over 40 years of experience producing events, One Reel has partnered with scores of local organizations, artists, and project producers to create the special pastiche of film, dance, visual and literary arts, spectacle, comedy, and youth programming that the public now expects from its hometown arts party. Our objective is to increase participation and opportunities for artists and audiences from all backgrounds, and to strengthen One Reel’s ability to leave a lasting cultural legacy for future generations.
